Job losses announced at Unilever

Consumer goods giant Unilever, which makes products such as Flora, Persil and Bovril, is cutting about 70 jobs at its Port Sunlight site.

Under a reorganisation programme the Wirral location will become one of six strategic global sites focusing on product research.

However the changes will mean that there will be job cuts, a Unilever spokesman said.

The company said it would "minimise the use of compulsory redundancies".

Manufacturing jobs at the site would not be affected.
